With the aim to encourage more people of all ages to get involved in volunteering across the city, BIG Co Director Ned Hoste led workshops with a team at OC and York CSV to create an iconic branding that reflects how volunteers and those benefiting feel – bringing out the real sense of enjoyment and collaboration.
Ned explained: “This has been a great opportunity for BIG to work with OC to develop the ideas for the logo. From our point of view it is a rare opportunity to work with people who both have ideas about and experience of the service we are designing for, like an ideas resource and a review panel rolled into one.”
“The Big Ideas Collective has given fantastic support in both their design of ‘York’s Year of Volunteering’ logo’s and providing a wide range of other creative ideas. Without their creative input and technical support ‘York’s Year of volunteering’ would not have gained the momentum or reach that it has achieved”

Timed to coincide with the opening of the newly refurbished city library at the end of March 2010, there were events and activities throughout the year. We were also paid to develop a number of items from promotional lealfets and advertisements to seed packets for the guerilla gardening projects. We were also instrumental in getting backing from Minster FM for the main event in the centre of the city. This day had live coverage on Minster FM and had contribution from the major volunteering organisations from York.
